The Zanzibar Journalism and Mass Media College (ZJMMC) has officially been merged with the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) as a move to employ the idea of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to connect its higher learning institutions, the practice aimed at bringing about greater benefits through expanding the opportunities and scope of education in the isles.

This means that the ZJMMC has now been dissolved and instead forms another school of SUZA under the name School of Computing, Communication and Media Studies.

Hon. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (R), Minister of Information, Tourism and Heritage hands over the documents to Hon. Riziki Pembe Juma (L), Minister of Education and Vocational Training to justify merging ZJMMC with SUZA. Witnessing in the centre is Dr. Idrissa Muslim Hija, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training who is also the Vice Chairman of the SUZA Council.

The event took place at Vuga Campus on 29th July, 2020 and performed by Hon. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Minister of Information, Tourism and Heritage who officially handed over the college to Hon. Riziki Pembe Juma, Minister of Education and Vocational Training who then delivered the documents to Dr. Iddrissa Muslim Hija, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training who is also the Vice Chairman of the SUZA Council.

Other higher learning institutions which had previously been merged with the State University of Zanzibar are the then Zanzibar Institute of Financial Administration (ZIFA), College of Health Sciences (CHS), Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development (ZIToD) and the Kizimbani Agricultural Training Institute.
