SUZA Case Challenge 2019

The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) under Building Stronger University Project (BSU) invite students to spend 48 hours to develop solutions to a specific case challenge on waste, on 29-31 March 2019.

Zanzibar as many other developing countries faces complex challenges when it comes to waste. If immediate and sustainable solutions are not implemented the problem of waste will continue to impact our islands negatively.

To tackle the problem of waste in Zanzibar, the State University of Zanzibar sees the demand of innovative teamwork across disciplines available at SUZA. The case challenge competition situation calls for new thinking on how to design and sustain resilient Zanzibar in ways that secure the environment and citizens’ health and wellbeing at the same time. This again requires commitment and collaboration across disciplines and sectors including strong ties between planners, decision makers, professionals and students and active engagement of the full spectrum of citizens.

The SUZA Case Challenge 2019 is now Open for registration (click here).
This year’s challenge on WASTE is provided by Zanzibar Environmental Management Association (ZEMA).

What is a case challenge?

In a case challenge (also often called a case competition) participating teams strive to develop the best solution to a real-world issue presented by a business or organization, most often within a 24– or 48-hour time-span. Each team presents its solution both in writing (one page) and as a short oral pitch to a jury (5-10 minutes). All teams receive pitch training to prepare them for the final presentation.
