The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) has on 22nd December, 2019 signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hainan University from the People’s Republic of China to join forces on education and sciencedisciplines.The event took place at Vuga Campus in Stone Town.

Dr. Ali MakameUssi, the SUZA Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research and Consultancy signed the agreement on behalf of Dr.ZakiaAbubakar, the Vice Chancellor while Prof.WuYaoting, Chairman of the Hainan University Council represented his University. The occasion was also witnessed by Dr. Haroun AyoubMaalim, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning, Finance and Administration and Mr. Fakih M. Fakih, the Acting Head of Legal Department and other officials from Hainan University.

The parties shall establish and encourage mutually beneficial scientific, technological, educational and other relations based on visit by an exchange of graduate and undergraduate students for study and research,visit by and exchange of staff for research, teaching and discussionin addition to research publications also collaboration in joint research activities.The memorandum was also signed with a view of promoting bilateral friendly exchanges and cooperation of information including but not limited to, exchange of library materials.

The memorandum of understanding becomes effective on the day it is signed and remains valid for five years.

Earlier, these partner universities both declared that by combining their strengths and by deepening collaboration between them, they can magnify the educational and scientific scope so it is very important for them to commit themselves in their engagement.

Hainan University, officially established in August 2007 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, is a

national key comprehensive university. It is the merger of the former South China University of Tropical Agriculture (SCUTA), and the former Hainan University (HU). As one of the national “211 Project” universities, it is jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial Government.
