SUZA and Cuba vow to strengthen ties in higher education

The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) and Cuba committed to establishing collaborations with focus on agricultural development. The agreement was reached at Tunguu Campus on 30th September, 2019 by the SUZA Vice Chancellor, Dr. Zakia Abubakar during the visit of the Cuban officials from the Ministry of Agriculture led by Dr. Rodelay P. Morales Centelles, the Deputy Chief of Office.

The Vice Chancellor and her visitors discussed on educational opportunities in health and agricultural fields which could be available in Cuba noting that Cuba has vast expertise in these disciplines. In their conversation, Dr. Morales Centelles assured SUZA to help building its capacity and urged SUZA to prepare a plan which will identify specific areas of partnership. He then advised to formulate a memorandum of understanding between the duo which will enable SUZA to have link with some Cuban higher learning institutions for their mutual advantage.
Dr. Zakia informed the delegation that SUZA pledges to further links with Cuba through the government of Zanzibar to push their relations to a higher level as they have already been in strong cooperation especially in health education in which Cuba contributes its expertise in this area through its academicians who lecture in the School of Health and Medical Sciences.

The visit of Cuban delegation in Zanzibar which is aimed at firming up bilateral relations between Cuba and Zanzibar is done following the official visit in Cuba made by Hon. Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi, the Zanzibar Second Vice President in March this year.
