SUZA GETS NEW DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLORS

The Management of the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) wishes to inform the general public and the entire SUZA stakeholders that the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council who is also the Chancellor of the State University of Zanzibar, His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein appointed Dr. Ali Makame Ussi (BSc & MSc. (Aquatic) (UDSM), PhD in Marine – Biology (UDSM) as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research and Consultancy. He also appointed Dr. Haroun Ayoub Maalim (BA Ed. (SUZA), Masters (TESOL) (Melbourne) (Australia), PhD – Language (Sociolinguistic) (Rhodes Univ.) South Africa) to take on the post of Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance.

The appointments have been made as per the requirements of the Amendment Act No. 11 of 2009 of the State University of Zanzibar Section 4(10)(1) following the termination of tenure for the posts held by the outgoing executives.

The term of service in their new offices for all the appointees is a triennium effective 24th September, 2018 and comes to an end on 23rd September, 2021.

Prior to their appointments Dr. Ali Makame Ussi was serving as the Director of Undergraduate Studies while Dr. Haroun Ayoub Maalim was holding the post of Dean of the School of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages both in the State University of Zanzibar.

The outgoing officials were Dr. Haji Mwevura Haji who held the post of Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research and Consultancy and Dr. Zakia Mohamed Abubakar who was the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance.

The State University of Zanzibar genuinely appreciates the good service rendered by them throughout their service as Deputy Vice Chancellors and will keep on asking for their advice in leadership related issues and above all wishing them the best in the next phase of their working life.
