The president visits SUZA |
The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) and Zanzibar Institute for Research and Public Policy (ZIRPP) have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on 19th December, 2011 at SUZA Conference Hall, Vuga campus.
The main objective of signing this agreement was to bring the two Institutes together so as to easily conduct social research that has impact to policy formulation in the isles.
The Vice Chancellor of SUZA, Prof. Idris Ahmada Rai, signed the MoU on behalf of SUZA whereas The Executive Director of such Institute Mr Muhammad Yussuf. The signing was also witnessed by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Dr. Abdulla Ismail Kanduru, and Dr. Ahmed Gurnah, the Deputy Director of ZIRRP.
This was the first time for SUZA to sign an agreement of collaboration with local institutions. ZIRRP, as it names implies, is a think tank with the main objective to undertake research on public and social issues so as to better inform policy makers on issues that affect the community. ZIRPP was launched in April 2009, and has over 150 members world wide mostly social scientist researcher.
The signing process was remarkable event particularly as SUZA is marking its ten years since establishment. As a public University, we are very proud to reach this agreement because we can share our synergies to conduct multi-disciplinary research on social issues."
According to Prof. Rai, SUZA has deliberately opened the door for any other institutes and individuals who need to partner with SUZA so as to serve national, regional or global community.
