School of Medicine & Health Science (SMHS). The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program is to be housed in the newly established School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The program is designed to produce the much needed health professionals for the internal and external uses. The SUZA medical program will adapt the program provided by the Zanzibar Medical School under the Cuban doctors. Using the same Cuban doctors in the program and other local professionals, the program will be adapted and reviewed to suit the SUZA mission and vision as well as the country’s priorities.
Program Description: This is a five year competency based program plus one year of internship at an approved hospital, leading to a Doctor of Medicine degree. The first semesters are largely devoted to basic sciences and introduction to clinical medicine, but also fieldwork and community training. The next semesters are largely practical and as well as community health training program which covers twelve semesters of 15 weeks each. To be able to graduate, candidates are required to successfully complete a minimum of 360 units of credits, including elective courses, field attachments, and research project.
